Mountain Home (WIP)

'Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone' -The Lord of the Rings

Availability and Placement and Territory or Lack Thereof

Like the Great Pyramid Party Mode option, Mountain Home is placed directly on the Battlefield. It requires a 9-by-9 stretch of Battlefield like the Great Pyramid option. It may be placed under the same conditions as the Great Pyramid Option. In light of this, it may not be selected outside of Party Mode. If, at the time of placement, there is nowhere to place, the Player who selected it must instead place as if they had selected Medieval Battalion. Pieces retain their Battlefield abilities, if any, in this Battalion's starting location.

Pieces

Ambushers

Ambushers are a classification of Pieces. If there is a Pillar and an Ambusher controlled by the same Player, and the Ambusher is on the Square r Ranks up the board and f Files to the right of the Pillar, then any Ambusher controlled by the same Player as those can leap r Ranks up the board and f Files to the right. For example, if a Player has a Pillar on a3 and Ambushers on b3 and c4, the Ambusher on c4 can leap to d4 or e5. r or f can also be 0 or negative. For example, if a Player has a Pillar on e6 and Ambushers on e4 and d5, the Ambusher on d5 can leap to c4 or d3. These Leaps can Capture.

Lord Titan

The Lord Titan is a Titan. It is also an Ambusher and can Move and Capture accordingly. It does not have any additional abilities.

Speardwarf

The Speardwarf is also an Ambusher, but Speardwarves have an additional restriction! They may not Move or Capture more than 3 Squares away from where they started the motion! This is the Speardwarf's only ability

Forgery

The Forgery is also an Ambusher. In addition to its Ambusher ability, a Forgery may have the ability to Move and Capture up to a maximum distance along Rook Lines; this maximum distance is a property of the individual Forgery.

Pikedwarf

The Pikedwarf may Move 1 Square along Rook Lines without Capturing. It may Capture 1 Square along Bishop Lines. When it moves or Captures, that movement must not bring it closer to any Friendly Titan. Distance to a Friendly Titan is here defined using the number of chess king moves between it and a Friendly Titan. A Pikedwarf promotes to Warrior when it reaches the last rank of any Player's Territory.

Warrior

The Warrior can Move or Capture an umlimited number of Squares along Rook Lines.

Intricacy

The Intricacy has no Moving or Capturing ability. It is Immutable and immune to being Captured because no Piece is willing to disturb it.

Cycle Forge

The Cycle Forge is a mechanic that activates for a Player playing as Mountain Home when they Capture an non-Immutable Piece or when 1 of their non-Immutable Pieces is Captured. It doesn't deactivate until the end of the game or until that Player's Titan or Titans are Reforged. Starting when the mechanic activates for a Mountain Home Player, that Player gets a Bit of Respite when they Capture an Enemy non-Immutable Piece or when their own non-Immutable Piece is Captured by an Opponent.

5 of the Player's Turns after the Cycle Forge activates for a Mountain Home Player—and every 5 of their Turns thereafter—they lose all their Bits of Respite. If they had less than 2, their Titan or Titans are Reforged. If they had 3 or more, they may to place a Forgery on an empty Square adjacent to their Titan; the maximum distance along Rook Lines the Forgery may always Move or Capture is given by the number of Bits of Respite they lost minus 3.

Reforging

When a Player's Titan or Titans are Reforged, all of their Titans are replaced by Intricacies. This Player now has no Titans, and if they obtain any later, those will be immediately replaced by Intricacies as well. This Player is also disqualified from winning the game. Furthermore, the Opponent Targeting this Player now Targets the Opponent that this Player was Targeting. If this would result in the Opponent Targeting themselves, that Opponent wins the game. From here, the Player whose Titans were Reforged continues to play with their remaining Pieces if they have any, but they are unable to win the game. They can now try to even out pure material differences by Capturing the Pieces of whichever Players have a material advantage; however, they should only Capture Pieces that aren't really doing anything in the current position. If the endgame comes, they should stop doing this and just do whatever.

Inspiration

Despite the quote above, Mountain Home is not really inspired much by The Lord of the Rings; the Battalion creator simply likes the quote. The Ambusher mechanic is from the game Meta Knight by Beekie and is the main idea behind the Battalion. The Cycle Forge mechanic and the Intricacy are inspred by the SCP Foundation website as well as a certain thing from Stellaris that might be considered a spoiler.
